If you have a friend or family member who is currently in prison, the best method to stay in touch is to use an inmate texting app. These apps are designed to comply with prison regulations and allow family members and friends to send messages, pictures, video calls, eCards and money to their trust accounts in prison. In addition to these messaging apps, there are numerous federal inmate apps that offer additional services like video visitation and phone calls.
JPay for instance, allows family and friends to transfer money directly to an inmate's trust account, as well as videos, photos, emails and eCards. It also lets them make personalized postcards featuring personal photos. It's a more secure, more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular texting app for prisoners is GettingOut. It provides "simple, efficient communication" between inmates with their loved family members. The app is available at select correctional facilities and allows inmates to upload pictures and message family members and friends using their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 a message and loved ones pay for the information that is used to read their messages (but not for explicit pictures). You can also make text inmate use of the GettingOut app to share a photo on Facebook or Foursquare and check-in on Foursquare and then add a video to the YouTube upload.
